Charlottesville woman accused of DWI after hitting Albemarle patrol vehicle
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A woman is facing several charges, including a driving while impaired (DWI) charge, after police say she hit the front of an Albemarle County Police Department patrol vehicle while on the scene of a crash.
At about 6:20 p.m., officers with the Albemarle County Police Department responded to a crash in the 1700 block of James Monroe Parkway.
According to police, while crews were removing one of the vehicles involved in the initial crash, an Albemarle officer was in their patrol vehicle, blocking both lanes with their emergency lights activated.
At 6:32 p.m., a vehicle operated by a Charlottesville woman tried to go around the crash and hit the front of the patrol vehicle.
The officer reportedly put the patrol vehicle in reverse to reduce the impact and minimize potential damage, according to police.
Both the officer and the Charlottesville woman were uninjured in the crash.
She was charged with the following:
- Driving while impaired (DWI), second in five years
- Felony hit and run
- Driving without a license
- Obstruction
The woman is being held at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail without bond.
