Chesterfield announces new police chief

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Chesterfield County has announced who it has chosen to replace the previous Chesterfield County Police Chief, who retired in May. The Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors has selected Lt. Col. Edward F. "Frank" Carpenter, Jr. to take over as Chesterfield Police Chief on Thursday, Oct. 31. Carpenter has been working for Chesterfield Police for 25 years and was appointed deputy chief of operations in July 2023. "I am profoundly humbled by the Board of Supervisors choosing me to lead one of the nation's premier law enforcement agencies," said Carpenter. "The men and women of our department recognize the immense responsibility of serving a community that prioritizes public safety." Col. Jeffrey S. Katz, the Chesterfield Police Chief since January 2018, left the department on May 1 to take a role with the FBI's Training Division's Leadership Development Unit in Prince William County. Deputy Chief of Strategic Management Lt. Col. Brad Badgerow has been acting police chief since May.
