Chesterfield announces water is safe to drink after Richmond requests county to disconnect from water system

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Chesterfield County has announced that water is safe to drink after the City of Richmond announced a boil water advisory in the wake of issues with the city's water treatment plant.

Around 12:45 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27, Chesterfield County's Department of Public Utilities received a call from the City of Richmond's Department of Public Utilities, indicating that its personnel were having operational issues at the water treatment plant.

According to Chesterfield, they are aiding the city in reducing water demands. Richmond DPU requested that Chesterfield reduce or stop taking water from the city and the county complied just before 2 a.m.

Chesterfield Utilities and operations staff have since stopped taking water from the three points of entry from the city of Richmond and have transitioned customers to other water sources.

According to the county, Chesterfield's water remains safe to consume, and its water distribution system has since continued to operate as designed through the incident.
