Chesterfield County Fire and EMS provides tips to prevent winter fires
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Half of home fires occur in December, January and February, according to Chesterfield County Fire and EMS. With this in mind, here are safety tips to keep your home and family safe.
According to officials, one in every seven house fires involve heating equipment.
To prevent house fires during the winter season, Chesterfield County Fire and EMS recommends taking the following steps:
- Plug only one heat-producing appliance into an electrical outlet at a time.
- Install carbon monoxide alarms and test them at least once a month.
- Have a professional clean and inspect your chimney and vents yearly.
- Keep anything that can burn at least three feet away from any heart sources.
