Chesterfield residents urged to shelter in place for several days, officials provide safety tips
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — As an incoming winter storm makes its way through Central Virginia this weekend, Chesterfield officials are urging residents to stay indoors and be prepared to do so for a few days.
Beginning Saturday, Jan. 24, most areas in Central Virginia will be under a winter storm warning, meaning heavy snow, ice and sleet, making it "nearly impossible" to travel, according to the National Weather Service. Ice accumulations could also bring widespread power outages and tree damage to impacted regions, according to the agency.
Chesterfield County officials on Jan. 23 urged residents to shelter in place for several days in anticipation of the storm's impact on the area, including during emergency events such as severe weather, power outages or other community-wide events.
