City of Richmond announces ‘Lighter, Quicker, Cheaper’ traffic projects are underway
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The City of Richmond's Department of Public Works (DPW) has announced the upcoming implementation of several 'Lighter, Quicker, Cheaper' (LQC) projects to tackle safety and traffic issues.
According to the department, these projects were created in response to public comments received through Richmond Connects -- a plan for identifying and improving multimodal transportation throughout the city.
The LQC projects are part of the plan's first phase, and aim to serve multiple purposes at the direction of the Office of Equitable Transit and Mobility (OETM), including improvements to pedestrian and public safety, transportation equity and street accessibility. Additionally, "community-driven art installations" will be featured in the projects.
The department said that utilizing LQC models helps the city tackle pressing issues while keeping the interventions temporary and cost-effective, allowing for more permanent installations in the future.
