City of Richmond announces weather shelter plans for winter storm
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The City of Richmond has announced its weather shelter plans for this week ahead of Wednesday's winter storm. According to a release from city officials, the Salvation Army Inclement Weather Shelter will operate continuously from 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19, until noon on Saturday, Feb. 22, due to the incoming severe weather conditions. Prior to Feb. 19, the shelter will operate at its regular hours of 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. The weather shelter is located at 1900 Chamberlayne Pkwy. and is for single men and women -- service animals can also be accommodated. All guests are provided a cot, dinner, a snack and breakfast. Admission is on a first-come, first-served basis. There are 66 spaces for men and 44 for women. To inquire about availability, call the Salvation Army at 804-653-5707. The Overflow Weather Shelter will also operate continuously from 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, until noon on Saturday, Feb. 22. The overflow shelter is located at 900 E. Marshall St. It can accommodate up to 60 guests, including families. Depending on weather conditions, the days and hours of operation may be extended.
