Crews cleaning up gasoline believed to be illegally dumped in Midlothian

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Chesterfield County first responders are cleaning up gasoline that fire officials suspect was illegally dumped in Midlothian on Monday.

The afternoon of Monday, Aug. 18, crews with Chesterfield County Fire and EMS were called to Market Center Drive off of Charter Colony Parkway for report of a hazardous material spill between 21 and 99 gallons in size.

When they arrived, hazmat crews began efforts to identify the substance. It was later determined to be gasoline.

Fire officials told 8News that this gasoline is believed to have been illegally dumped.

As of the time of reporting, crews are working to ensure that the gasoline does not enter any storm drains. Fire officials said that an environmental remediation company will then finish cleaning up the spill.
