McEachin took over as Richmond’s commonwealth’s attorney after Michael Herring stepped down in 2019, defeating her opponent in August of that year. McEachin was the deputy commonwealth’s attorney before Herring made his decision to join the McGuireWoods law firm.
This year marks McEachin's third victory since then, and she previously defeated Barbour, who also ran against her in the 2021 Democratic primary. He conceded that Tuesday evening.
McEachin collaborated with Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and city leaders for a public safety and school meeting on the school’s campus in September 2024.
In addition, she met with two elected officials Friday as the U.S. Postal Service continues refusing to cooperate to resolve mounting mailing problems, McEachin held a discussion to hear from locals about what they’ve been experiencing.
