Community comes together for 6th annual Egyptian Festival in Henrico County

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Organizers and community members celebrated the 6th annual Egyptian Festival in Henrico County this weekend.

The free event drew people to St. Mary & St. Philopater Mercurius Coptic Orthodox Church on both days of the festival -- Saturday and Sunday.

"We try to bring all of the community together, so we can present our church, our culture, to everyone around the neighborhood," said Maged Abiskhiroon, an organizer of the event.

In addition to the authentic Egyptian cuisine, the festival featured live performances, kids' activities and church tours.

"We have so many things that we do and we add new items and new food to every festival that we do," Abiskhiroon said.

Some of the food available at this year's event included beef kofta, beef kebab, chicken kebab, chicken shwarma, stuffed grape leaves and more.
