Crash involving tractor-trailer leaves 2 dead on I-95 in Prince George County
PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A crash on Interstate 95 is has left two people dead in Prince George County, according to Virginia State Police (VSP).
The crash happened off of Gravelbrook Road and involved a tractor-trailer and a Volkswagen which according to VSP resulted in multiple fatalities.
According to VSP, the preliminary investigations suggests that the Volkswagen ran off the road and struck a tree then overturned. The two occupants of the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene.
One person was flown by Med-Flight with life-threatening injuries, while two others were transported by ambulance with serious injuries.
The driver of the tractor-trailer driver remains uninjured.
All southbound lanes are currently closed near the South Crater exit, around mile-marker 45.2, just off Gravelbrook Road.
The crash still remains under investigation--VSP is working with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), to establish a detour.
This is a single-vehicle crash and VDOT is asking for drivers to seek an alternative route to avoid delays.
