Deadline approaches for community feedback in Richmond’s Monuments and Public Art Survey
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The deadline is approaching to submit survey responses to The Valentine Museum, including suggestions for the future of the Jefferson Davis statue that was removed in 2020 following protests against police brutality.
The Valentine is collecting survey feedback through the Richmond's Monument and Public Art Survey.
The Valentine states that the survey has served as a tool for engaging Richmonders in dialogue about history, memory and community values.
According to a news release from The Valentine, the "initiative [is] designed to gather input on how the region should confront, interpret and reimagine its commemorative landscape."
On Sunday, Aug. 17, the statue will be taken off view ahead of it being loaned to the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles.
If you are interested in filling out the survey, you can do so here. The deadline for the survey form is Monday, Aug. 18.
