Dinwiddie pursuit suspect arrested after another vehicle hit by state trooper during chase
DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A suspect is in the custody of the Dinwiddie County Sheriff's Office after leading a chase that involved a state trooper crashing into another vehicle on Friday afternoon.
According to state police, troopers were assisting the Dinwiddie County Sheriff's Office in a chase at 2:57 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 27, that began in the area of Brickwood Meadow along Cox Road in Dinwiddie County.
A spokesperson with the sheriff's office told 8News that the chase began when a male driver failed to obey a traffic stop attempted by a deputy who observed a traffic infraction. The chase reportedly crossed into Petersburg and Prince George County before ending at Temple Avenue and Conduit Road in Colonial Heights.
According to the sheriff's office, the driver got out of the vehicle and attempted to run away but was apprehended by law enforcement officers. He is currently in custody with the Dinwiddie County Sheriff's Office and charges are pending.
A release from Virginia State Police, said that, during the pursuit, a state trooper hit the back of a 2014 Lexus driven by a 21-year-old Dumfries woman. Police said the trooper's emergency lights and siren were active.
The woman and the trooper were both taken to a nearby hospital for precautionary evaluations. No serious injuries have been reported at this time.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing through the Dinwiddie County Sheriff's Office -- the primary agency handling the pursuit.
