Dog dead, person in hospital after fire in Chesterfield townhome

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A dog is dead and a person is in the hospital after a fire in a Chesterfield County townhome on Friday morning. Just after 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, Chesterfield Fire and EMS crews were called to the 6200 block of Aldersbrook Court for a fire alarm activation. Officials said it was quickly determined that there was a fire and more firefighters, including some from Richmond Fire, were dispatched to the scene. The first firefighters that arrived on the scene found smoke coming from a townhome and a fire in the kitchen. Crews were able to get the fire under control within 30 minutes, according to authorities. According to Chesterfield Fire and EMS, one person who was inside of the home was transported to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation and a dog died in the fire. Officials said a total of four people were displaced due to the fire and are being assisted by family members. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Chesterfield Fire Marshal's Office.
