Dominion Energy invents new mobile solar energy unit

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Dominion Energy held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the release of its first mobile battery energy storage system on Thursday.

On Thursday, Dec. 18, Dominion Energy unveiled the first one-of-a-kind mobile battery energy storage system serving as a clean alternative to diesel generators at the ribbon-cutting ceremony at Dominion Energy Safety and Training Center, located at 11501 Old Stage Road in Chester.

The Green Grid 90 kWh mobile battery energy storage system (MBESS) was invented by Dominion team members to use solar panels on the roof to generate energy.

These emission-free units don't make noise or require fuel in order to function. They can be used to power festivals, electric vehicles, remote worksites and assist utilities and emergency organizations during power outages.

The Green Grid 90 kWh MBESS unit is manufactured and sold by a Maryland-based technology company called Power Up Connection.
