Driver charged with reckless driving after 5-vehicle crash on I-295 in Henrico County
HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A driver has been charged with reckless driving after a five-vehicle crash occurred on I-295 in Henrico County on Wednesday evening that injured multiple people.
A five-vehicle crash reportedly occurred at 8:24 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 19, on southbound I-295 near I-64 East in Henrico County's East End.
According to Virginia State Police, a tractor-trailer hit two truck-mounted attenuator (TMA) vehicles and two pickup trucks that were part of a pothole repair work zone.
Police said one of the pickup trucks was being driven by a civilian, and the three other vehicles hit were part of the work crew.
The driver of the tractor-trailer had non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital, according to officials. The driver was charged with reckless driving.
Three people, including one roadway worker, were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of the tractor-trailer did not move into the left lane while approaching the work zone, resulting in the tractor-trailer hitting the work vehicles and personnel.
The Virginia Department of Transportation’s Traffic Incident Management (TRIP) resources were activated and are on scene conducting cleanup operations. Police said a detour has been established, directing traffic onto the bypass road at Exit 28.
Officials continue to investigate.
