Driver charged with reckless driving after multi-vehicle crash on 1-95

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC)-- All lanes are clear after police responded to a multi-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on Interstate 95 this afternoon in Richmond.

On Sunday, June 1, at 1:50 p.m. Virginia State Police responded to a three vehicle crash on I-95 at the Maury Street, Exit 73 ramp in Richmond.

According to police, the incident occurred after an SUV tried to bypass traffic by using the right emergency shoulder lane to reach the exit ramp. During this time, a motorcycle experiencing mechanical issues and overheating was pulling off into the right and was hit by the SUV.

The impact pushed the motorcycle into a tractor trailer traveling in the lane next to it after which the motorcyclist became trapped underneath the bike.

The driver of the motorcycle was assisted from under the bike and is currently not suffering from any life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the SUV is being charged with reckless driving.

All lanes are now clear.
