Driver has been identified in Sussex crash that left 2 dead on Route 460

SUSSEX COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- All lanes are now open on Route 460 in Sussex County after two people died following a multi-vehicle crash on Sunday.

At 1:50 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 17, Virginia State Police (VSP) arrived at the scene of a crash on General Mahone Highway in Sussex.

According to police, when troopers arrived on the scene they found both drivers of the crash dead at the scene.

Based on the preliminary investigation troopers said, the driver of a 2010 Ford Fusion was traveling westbound on Route 450 when for "unknown reasons," it crossed the center line and struck a 2015 Jeep Patriot traveling eastbound.

The Ford Fusion then caught fire immediately after impact, immediately burning the driver, according to VSP.

27-year-old Tayvon Dawson, of Henrico has been identified as the victim and driver of the Jeep involved in the incident, however the passenger has not yet been identified.

The passenger of the 2015 Jeep Patriot, was med-flighted to the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), Medical facility with life-threatening injuries.

Identification has not yet been made on the driver of the 2011 Ford Fusion, or next of kin. As of right now alcohol and speed are not considered to be contributing factors to the incident.
