Driver hurt, passenger fighting for life after box truck overturns in Chesterfield
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A driver is hurt and their passenger is fighting for their life after a box truck overturned and slid into a tree in Chesterfield County on Wednesday. At about 12:33 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, officers with the Chesterfield County Police Department and first responders with Chesterfield County Fire and EMS were called to the 12800 block of Spring Run Road for report of a single-vehicle crash. Police said that the involved vehicle, a box truck, had run off the road. The driver then overcorrected, causing the truck to overturn and slide into a tree. According to authorities, the driver's injuries were not considered life-threatening. They were taken to a hospital via ambulance for treatment. Fire officials called in the MedFlight team to airlift the passenger, who had life-threatening injuries, to an area hospital. The helicopter landed at a nearby school to do so.
