GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The driver in a Goochland County car crash that killed two Henrico County teenagers in May 2024 was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Friday.

At around 11 p.m. on May 18, 2024, troopers with the Virginia State Police responded to the 1200 block of Hockett Road for a report of a single-vehicle crash.

Upon arrival, officers determined that then 18-year-old Hayden Alexander Kyle of Henrico was driving at a high rate of speed when he lost control, ran off the right side of the road and hit a tree sideways, splitting the car in two.

Per police, two 16-year-old males from Henrico were also riding in the car at the time. They were killed on impact.

Kyle was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Per court records, Kyle was sentenced on Friday, Jan. 9, to 20 years in prison on two charges for each of the victims after he pleaded guilty on Oct. 14, 2025.

He will only serve five years in prison followed by three years of probation because a major portion of his sentence -- seven years and six months for each charge -- was suspended.

Kyle does not have to surrender his license.
