Driver injured in Route 60 shooting in New Kent County

NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Virginia State Police is investigating a shooting in New Kent County that left one person injured and another detained.

A release shared by state police said the shooting occurred at 10:23 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30, at 1701 Pocahontas Trail (Route 60) in Quinton.

According to police, the victim was driving a Hyundai Kona when a bullet struck him. He then drove to a nearby Love's truck stop before being transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

One other person was detained after the incident. Police did not say whether the person was involved in the shooting.

Virginia State Police are continuing to investigate. They said they believe this was an isolated incident.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) said all lanes on Route 60 are open and the scene was cleared shortly before 1:30 p.m.

"VSP urges all motorists to remain cautious on the roadways and drive defensively to avoid aggressive behavior," the release from state police reads.
