Driver snaps Chesterfield power pole, takes down power lines on Thanksgiving

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A driver has been charged after police say they snapped a power pole in half in Chesterfield County on Thanksgiving, taking down power lines and closing the road.

The crash took place the afternoon of Thursday, Nov. 27, along Route 1 in the area of Alcott Road, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).

The Chesterfield County Police Department told 8News that the involved driver crashed into at least two power poles, snapping one of them in half. This caused power lines to fall, with some of those lines landing on the vehicle.

Only minor injuries were reported. The driver was charged with a traffic violation, but police did not specify what that violation was.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area. If you must pass through, there is a posted detour you can follow, per VDOT.
