DWR asks Virginia hunters to help with bear mange study
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR) is asking bear hunters across Virginia to help with a bear mange study. The department invited hunters to submit harvested bears to the sampling station nearest to them on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Samples will include hair, teeth, whiskers, liver, blood, skin and weight and body measurements. These samples will help employees in their ongoing research on mange, defined by DWR as a "highly contagious skin disease that affects many wild and domestic mammals."
