Estimates show over 52,000 people moved to the Richmond area since 2020

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Since 2020, over 52,000 people have moved to the Richmond area and made the Commonwealth their new home, according to the University of Virginia's Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service.

8News has listed the population estimates for several counties and cities in Central Virginia based on data collected by the University of Virginia's Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service.

City of Richmond

According to the center, the City of Richmond saw a population growth of 6,429 people moving to the city from April 2020 to July 2024.

Chesterfield

The report found that surrounding counties like Chesterfield have also seen steady inclines in population growth with the county seeing an estimate of 30,000 new residents from April 2020 to July 2024.

Henrico

According to the center, Henrico County has seen an estimated increase of 11,584 residents from April 2020 to July 2024.

Hanover

Hanover County is estimated to have grown by almost 4,500 from April 2020 to July 2024, according to the data gathered.

Petersburg

Petersburg saw an estimated increase of just over 1,000 new residents in its area from that time frame.
