Finish off May with Big Poplar Hike at Pocahontas State Park

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Richmond area residents and visitors can finish off the month of May with a hike at Pocahontas State Park on Saturday while learning about native wildlife.

From 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, attendees at the Big Poplar Hike will be guided by a ranger on an easy to moderate 0.7-mile loop around the park, beginning at the visitor center.

Participants will learn about Swift Creek, native wildlife and the park's history while meandering along the trail.

The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation recommends that visitors wear sturdy shoes, pack water and/or snacks and dress for the weather. The trail is hard-packed earth with elevation changes.
