Five people displaced after fire at Richmond apartment complex

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Five people are displaced following a fire at a Richmond apartment complex Thursday morning.

At 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 24, Richmond Fire and EMS received a call regarding a fire at Sherwood Apartments, located at 3012 Chamberlayne Avenue.

When officials arrived, they rescued roughly eight people from apartment balconies.

The fire was extinguished, leaving two apartments severely damaged and uninhabitable, and two more with heavy smoke damage, according to officials.

Five people were reportedly displaced.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
