Flash flood warning for Richmond and Central Virginia Counties

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A flash flood warning has been issued for Richmond and the following areas in Central Virginia after radar indicated thunderstorms.

On Saturday Sept. 20 at 4:10 p.m. the National Weather Service of Wakefield issued a flash flood warning that will remain in effect until 6:15 p.m. for the following areas:

  • The City of Richmond
  • Chesterfield County
  • Henrico County

The warning came after doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area.

As of now 1.5 inches of rain has fallen, and additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area.

During this time, safety practices such as, "turn around and don't drown" are encouraged when encountering flooded roads.
