Food Lion recalls ground beef from Midlothian store over possible plastic contamination

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Food Lion has issued a recall alert for ground beef prepared at its Midlothian store over possible plastic contamination.

The grocery retailer on Feb. 7 announced a recall for four varieties of its ground beef products prepared in-store at the Midlothian location, 11130 Hull Street Road. Food Lion said small pieces of the black rubber plastic gasket might have made their way into the recalled products, as the piece of equipment was dislodged and damaged during the grinding process.

The company said there are currently no complaints or reports of illness associated with the products.

The affected product varieties were produced on Feb. 6 after 11:30 a.m. with a "sell by" date of Feb. 8, per Food Lion. This includes:

  • 73% Lean Fresh Ground Beef (All Sizes)
  • 80% Lean Fresh Ground Chuck (All Sizes)
  • 85% Lean Fresh Ground Round (All Sizes)
  • 93% Lean Fresh Ground Beef (All Sizes)

Customers who purchased the ground beef varieties should not consume them. The recalled products can be returned to the Food Lion Midlothian location for a refund equal to or double the purchase price.
