Former president of New Kent Girls Softball League charged with embezzlement

NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A former president of a New Kent County softball league has been charged with felony embezzlement after authorities say she misappropriated the league's funds.

According to the New Kent County Sheriff's Office, 54-year-old Audra Jean Carter-Lowry of Chesterfield County is accused of embezzling funds from the New Kent Girls Softball League during her tenure as its president.

This alleged misappropriation of the team's funds would have taken place in July 2024.

Following what authorities described as an "extensive investigation," Carter-Lowry was arrested on Thursday, March 6. She was later released on an unsecured bond.

"The investigation remains active and ongoing, and further charges are being considered in consultation with the New Kent Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office," the sheriff's office said.

According to authorities, she is set to appear before a New Kent General District Court judge for her arraignment at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, March 11.
