Fourth man arrested after deadly gang-related shooting in Albemarle

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A fourth arrest has been made in an Oct. 2024 gang-related shooting that left a 23-year-old Charlottesville man dead.

At around 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024, crews with the Albemarle County Police Department and Albemarle Fire Rescue were called to the 1600 block of Rio Hill Drive for multiple reports of shots fired.

When crews arrived, first responders found 23-year-old Zerrion Eubanks-Warfield of Charlottesville, who had been shot-- he died at the scene.

A second, unidentified victim was taken to an area hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening. Additionally, several vehicles and apartments in the area were damaged by gunfire.

Authorities said this shooting is believed to be gang-related.

In late April, about six months after the initial shooting, police announced that three people had been arrested and charged in connection with this incident. This included 20-year-old Kaveigh Palmer of Richmond, Raymond Carter, Jr. of Charlottesville and 24-year-old Darnell Morris, Jr. of Charlottesville.

These three men received seven felony charges each, including counts of aggravated malicious wounding.

Four months after these arrests were made, on Tuesday, Aug. 26, police said a fourth man is now in custody.

According to police, 18-year-old Jamarques Lamont Andres Jones of Charlottesville is facing seven felony charges, including:

  • One count of malicious wounding
  • One count of malicious wounding by mob
  • One count of gang participation
  • One count of conspiracy to commit a felony
  • Three counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony

Jones is being held without bond at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.
