Fraudsters pose as Chesterfield Sheriff’s Office employees targeting residents
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of fraudsters posing as Sheriff's Office employees.
According to the sheriff's office, people are reportedly receiving calls made by suspects posing as employees of the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office. During the call, they advise county residents to call them back to verify their identity.
The Sheriff's Office assures residents that it would "NEVER" instruct a person to pay money to make a charge "go away" and request that residents meet with a deputy and pay using a pre-paid card.
Deputies said that residents can call the Sheriff’s Office at 804-748-1261 to verify the call.
Residents can also view active warrants on the county's website by typing “active warrants” in the search field. According to the sheriff's office, this will show active warrants and capias in the county.
