Free comprehensive healthcare clinic to pop up in Emporia this weekend

EMPORIA, Va. (WRIC) -- Remote Area Medical (RAM) is offering free comprehensive medical services to those who attend their free health care clinic in the City of Emporia.

The free pop-up clinic will take place from June 21 to June 22 at Greensville County High School and will offer dental, vision and medical services.

The clinic will offer the following procedures:

  • Dental: Cleanings, fillings, extractions and x-rays
  • Vision care: Complete eye exams, eye health evaluations, prescription glasses made on site for new prescriptions or bring your existing prescriptions
  • Medical care: Physical exams RX consultations, Women's health, general exams and more

According to a press release, RAM's clinic serves as a "lifeline" for underserved communities. As kids go home for the summer and summer sports are on the rise, the clinic also offers student physicals, as well as limited labs and hearing screenings.

In the release, RAM said, "By bringing healthcare directly to those in need, RAM removes the barriers of cost and distance that often prevent people from seeking care."

The pop-up clinic in Emporia is available to those with no insurance, and an ID is required.

On Friday, June 20, the parking lot will open no later than 11:59 p.m. and will stay open for the remainder of the clinic, with doors opening at 6 a.m.

Services will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis until capacity is reached. Sunday's operations will be shortened, so RAM advises patients to arrive as early as possible.

RAM also advises patients to choose between dental and vision services due to time constraints -- all patients are offered medical care.
