Funeral arrangements made for Henry Marsh, Richmond’s first Black mayor

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The funeral arrangements for Henry L. Marsh, III -- the first Black mayor of Richmond -- have been announced. Marsh died at the age of 91 on Friday, Jan. 24. A political trailblazer, he dedicated his life to the city of Richmond and beyond, serving at both the local level and in Virginia's Senate. He was a fierce advocate for racial equality and played a large part in upholding Brown v. Board of Education in the Commonwealth. Following his death, many Virginia leaders shared their condolences and spoke on the impact he'd had on their lives. Several of those leaders are expected to attend his upcoming viewing and funeral. The funeral will be held on Saturday, Feb. 1, starting at 1 p.m. at the St. Paul's Baptist Church, located at 4247 Creighton Road. This means Marsh will be laid to rest on the first day of Black History Month.
