General Assembly rejects most of Youngkin’s proposed budget amendments, including those on education and immigration
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Democratic-controlled General Assembly has rejected most of Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s proposed budget amendments.
The House of Delegates voted to pass by more than 160 of Youngkin’s 205 proposed changes.
The House rejected Youngkin’s plan to allocate $25 million to create a program that would provide $5,000 scholarships to 5,000 low-income Virginia families to help them attend a private school.
Democrats also effectively killed Youngkin’s proposal to scale back the amount of new money allocated to help fund school support positions in Virginia.
Plus, lawmakers also rejected Youngkin’s proposal to strip state funding from local law enforcement agencies that don’t comply with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
