Governor Youngkin announces ABB, Inc. expansion plans in Henrico County
HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Governor Glenn Youngkin recently announced that ABB, a global electrification and automation technology company, will soon invest $28.5 million in expansion efforts within Henrico County.
ABB's Henrico facility is located at 5900 Eastport Boulevard and was established in 1968 as one of over 40 ABB facilities across 20 states and over 170 manufacturing facilities worldwide, according to a release.
As part of the planned expansion, the Henrico facility will gain a new test center, warehouse and assembly lines. This project will also reportedly bring over 100 jobs to the area within the next three years.
The current facility employs 184 Virginians and handles the manufacturing of power production products, aiding in the production of around 2,500 units each year, which support data centers, hospitals and manufacturing plants, the release said.
This expansion project was secured through collaborative efforts from the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) and Henrico County, with Youngkin approving a $300,000 grant from the Commonwealth's Opportunity Fund to help.
“ABB is continually investing in our workforce and advanced manufacturing footprint in the U.S. – our largest global market – to support our customers as they focus on improving energy efficiency and uptime while reducing their energy costs,” said ABB Electrification SVP of Industry Partnerships Franklin Sullivan. “The expanded facility in Richmond will increase ABB’s production capacity to meet significant market demand for advanced electrification solutions and enable us to continue to optimize customer service in this growing market.”
ABB's job creation efforts will be supported by the VEDP through the Virginia Jobs Investment Program -- a state-funded program that supplies funding and consultative services to companies with new jobs in an effort to support employee recruitment and training, the release said.
