Grandson of Chickahominy Indian Eastern Division chief killed in car crash
NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The grandson of the Chickahominy Indian Tribe Eastern Division chief was killed in a single-vehicle crash in New Kent County on Sunday afternoon.
Around 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 21, a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 was driving west on Route 60 in when it ran off the left side of the road, hit a tree and overturned.

Virginia State Police said the vehicle then caught on fire, prompting New Kent County Fire-Rescue to extinguish the fire once they arrived on the scene.
The vehicle's sole occupant who died was identified as 18-year-old Gavin Awessew Adkins.
Chief Joanne Howard of the Chickahominy Indian Tribe Eastern Division -- based in New Kent County -- confirmed with 8News that Gavin Adkins was the grandson of the late Chief Gene Adkins. He was also the son of current Assistant Chief Matt Adkins.
The crash remains under investigation by Virginia State Police.
