Greensville County School Board schedules public hearing for new superintendent search

GREENSVILLE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Greensville County School Board has announced that it will include a public hearing as part of the process for hiring a new superintendent.

The school division's previous superintendent, Kelvin Edwards, suddenly concluded his tenure on July 14. The reason for his departure was not shared. Yardley Farquharson was appointed acting superintendent a little more than a week later, on July 24.

In an announcement posted to Facebook on Wednesday, Nov. 26, the school board said it would hold a public hearing to hear the qualities that community members believe are most important for the role of superintendent.

"Choosing a new superintendent is one of the most significant decisions a school board makes, and we are committed to making it a collaborative process," said Rustin Jessee, school board chair, in a statement. "We value the perspective of our parents, staff, students and community members, and we invite everyone to share concerns at the upcoming public hearing."

The public hearing will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 8, at Greensville County High School.

The school board will also be receiving assistance in its superintendent search from the Virginia School Boards Association.
