Greensville Schools superintendent leaves role, acting superintendent chosen

GREENSVILLE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Greensville County Public Schools is experiencing a change in leadership going into the 2025-26 school year.

On Tuesday, July 15, the school division announced that Superintendent Kelvin Edwards had "concluded his tenure" with Greensville Schools, effective the previous day, July 14. The reason behind Edwards' departure was not shared.

"On behalf of the School Board, we extend our gratitude to Dr. Edwards for his service and dedication to the students, staff and families of Greensville County Public Schools," said Greensville County School Board chair Rustin Jessee in a press release. "We wish him continued success in his future endeavors.”

Then, on Thursday, July 24, Yardley Farquharson was appointed acting superintendent, effective that same day.

She brings nearly three decades of educational experience to her new role, per the school district. Her most recent position was within Greensville Schools as its Chief Academic Officer.

"The [School] Board is immensely grateful to Dr. Farquharson for her steadfast leadership -- stepping into the acting superintendent role at an important time for our school division," school officials said in a press release.

The school board will begin the search and open the application process for a permanent superintendent. The public will receive updates as this process unfolds, according to the school district.

"During this time of transition, our mission remains the same," school officials said. "Together with families and the community, GCPS is dedicated to providing a safe, rigorous, student-centered environment that empowers learners."
