Halloween Events Guide: Spooky fun in the Richmond area

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- "Spooky season" has returned! But have no fear, 8News has you covered with a number of fun festivities happening in the metro Richmond area.

????Richmond: Halloween Light Tours on the 'spooky bus'????

This year, the tours will run from Saturday, Oct. 18, through Thursday, Oct. 30, with limited spots available. Highlights will include:

  • Seeing the spookiest and biggest displays throughout the city
  • A customizable route -- with accommodation for specific home or pit stops
  • BYOB -- beverages are welcome to be brought on board
  • Pick-up and drop-off anywhere within Richmond city limits

In addition to those private tours, public tours will be held at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18, Sunday, Oct. 19, and Saturday, Oct. 25, and Sunday, Oct. 26.

What could be scarier than running? Grab your running or walking shoes for a Halloween-themed race along the Capital Trail on Saturday, Oct. 25.

The event is hosted by the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation and includes a pre-run Halloween costume contest and prizes for top finishers.

Participants will get a race-day T-shirt and adults will get a post-run beverage from Stone Brewing.

????Richmond: Harry's at Hofheimer's Dead Celebrity Ball????

Harry's at Hofheimer will be hosting a star-studded event from 6 to 11 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31.

The "Dead Celebrity Ball" will feature a Hollywood theme across multiple levels of the venue and include performances from Solacoustix and DJ Ghozt.

Additionally, there will be dazzling drag queens, a "Dead Celebrity" costume contest and a scavenger hunt.

Henrico County's Recreation and Parks will be hosting a Trunk or Treat event at Deep Run Park from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 24.

There will also be a kid-friendly Spooky Trail to walk during the event, followed by a Halloween movie showing at 7 p.m. in the activity field. Food, drinks and popcorn will be available for purchase and attendees are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets.

Halloween Haunt has returned to Kings Dominion and will continue on select nights through spooky season till Nov. 2. Attendees will be able to explore haunted houses, scare zones and haunted mazes.

The amusement park will feature special live shows, seasonal drinks and food and will keep its rides open at night as part of the festivities.

Ashland Berry Farm is welcoming scare fans back to Terror on the Farm!

With a selection of different haunts to choose from, the scares will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. on select dates through Saturday, Nov. 1.

This year's haunts include:

  • Black Water Bayou
  • Last Chance: Dead & Breakfast
  • Psycho Path 3D
  • Booger Woodes: Nightwalkers Edition

????Hanover County: Off the Rails Craft Beer Festival: Brews, Boos and BBQ????

Off the Rails returns to Hanover Arts and Activities Center from 3 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25.

Visitors will get to try local craft beers or wine and barbecue on the lawn along the town's historic railroad tracks.

There will be vendors, lawn games and a costume contest. Residents with heavy trick-or-treat traffic can also get a free bag of candy at the Downtown Ashland Association's booth if they bring proof of address.

Live music will be performed by Buckville Hootenanny.

Confront your fears with some of nature's spookiest creatures at Pocahontas State Park from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturdays throughout October.

Attendees will learn about different creepy crawlies and discover that they may not be as creepy or crawly as they seem.

Each Saturday will feature a new critter:

  • Oct. 11: Ominous Osteology -- Get an inside peek at the life of mammals from their skeletal system.
  • Oct. 18: Creepy Crawlies -- These creatures might give you the creeps, but they play crucial roles in our ecosystem. Learn why they're nature's hidden heroes.
  • Oct. 25: Pick Your Poison -- For the final week of October, pick from a variety of topics that have been featured throughout the month.

Henricus Historical Park will be delving into the legends and tales from centuries past.

From 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 24, and Saturday, Oct. 25, there will be guided tours through the park with interpreters dramatically demonstrating and performing old English folklore stories -- including witches, ghosts, goblins, shucks, and other "things that go bump in the night."
