Hanover County Public Schools announces proposed budget for 2025-26 school year
HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Hanover County Public Schools (HCPS) recently announced that the proposed budget for the 2025-26 school year has been presented to the school board. The proposed budget was presented by Lisa Pennycuff, Interim Superintendent of Schools, and featured a salary increase of 3% for "eligible employees" which would be effective on July 1, according to the HCPS website. In addition to the salary increase the key highlights of the budget include, as described by HCPS and Pennycuff: Funding to cover a significant portion of the increase to health insurance costs for Calendar Year 2025 Continuation of financial incentives for subsitutes Two school psychology interns Expansion of The Hanover Center for Trades and Technology Designating Mechanicsville Elementary School as the next replacement school For more information about the key highlights, and to view the full budget proposal, click here. The next steps for the budget include a public hearing that will be held Tuesday, Jan. 28 at 6 p.m. in the Hanover County Public Schools Central Office - John M. Gandy Building. If the proposed budget is approved by the school board, Pennycuff will then present it again in February to the Board of Supervisors for further consideration, according to the HCPS website.
