Hanover man dead after wrong-way driver hits him, car catches fire in King William

KING WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 39-year-old Hanover County man is dead after a wrong-way driver hit him in King William County late Thursday night, causing his car to catch fire.

Just before 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27, state troopers with Virginia State Police were called to Richmond Tappahannock Highway (Route 360) near Commerce Park Drive for report of a two-vehicle crash.

According to state police, 39-year-old James Michael Jones, Jr. of the Mechanicsville area of Hanover was driving a 2007 Dodge Magnum when he was hit by the driver of a 2003 Dodge R15.

That driver, a 39-year-old Louisa County man who state police did not name, was reportedly on the wrong side of the highway when he struck Jones.

The crash caused Jones' car to catch fire. He died at the scene.

State police said that charges for the Louisa driver are pending with the King William Commonwealth's Attorney.

No additional information is available as of the time of reporting. The crash remains under investigation.
