Hanover seeks local nonprofit organizations for 9/11 Day of Service
HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Hanover County is seeking local nonprofit organizations for the annual 9/11 Day of Service in mid-September.
The day, which is observed this year on Thursday, Sept. 11, will see community members honor those who died on Sept. 11, 2001.
Nonprofit organizations should submit volunteer projects that "offer meaningful ways for County employees and community members to give back and make a difference," according to a release from the county on Wednesday, May 14. Those interested in volunteering are encouraged to share their contact information on the Engage Hanover page.
Organizations must attend one of following virtual informational sessions in June and July:
- 2 to 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11
- 11 to 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, June 24
- 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. on Thursday, July 10
In 2024, 200 county employees worked with community volunteers. They reportedly had a combined 538 hours of service through 19 projects across the county. These included distributing meals to seniors, assisting in cleanup and beautification efforts and building picnic tables for elementary schools.
Hanover and the Community Foundation have partnered to connect organizations and volunteers through the Community Foundation Engage, or CFEngage platform.
