Hanover to host e-waste recycling event this weekend
HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Hanover County will host a free e-waste recycling event this weekend. Hanover residents will be able to bring their e-waste to Mechanicsville Convenience Center, located at 7427 Verdi Lane, on Saturday, Nov. 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to recycle it for free. The county provided a list of items people will be able to recycle: Flat screen monitors Flat screen televisions CRT (old convex style) monitors CRT televisions Computers, tablets and cell phones will be accepted and shredded (hard drive only for computers) at the event Cell phones and tablets with internal batteries Printers and battery backups Other small electrical items -- anything small with a plug -- will be accepted as well, including microwaves. Rechargeable batteries will also be accepted. The county issued a warning that the batteries can pose a fire hazard and their solid waste facilities have had several fires related to rechargeable batteries. Items that will not be accepted include appliances that contain Freon, alkaline batteries and smoke detectors. There will be a contractor on site to remove e-waste from vehicles. If you are planning to attend the event, be aware that it is for Hanover County residents only and ID will be required.
