Henrico Commonwealth’s Attorney Shannon Taylor enters congressional race
HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Henrico Commonwealth's Attorney Shannon Taylor has officially announced her campaign for Congress in Virginia's First Congressional District.
Taylor announced her run on Monday, Sept. 8, detailing her experience in the courtroom alongside local and national endorsements as part of her campaign against Republican incumbent Rob Wittman.
This campaign comes after Taylor kicked off the attorney general's race for Virginia's 2025 primary elections, eventually losing the Democratic nomination to Jay Jones following a night of neck-and-neck results.
Taylor has been the county's top prosecutor since 2012 and was the first woman commonwealth's attorney in Henrico County, bringing 28 years of courtroom experience to the role.
In her announcement, Taylor highlighted several statistics from her extensive career, including "a nearly 90% conviction rate in homicide cases," and detailed her efforts to keep local communities safe from crime.
Rob Wittman has served in Virginia's First Congressional District since 2007, with a focus on military and veteran support alongside fixing local infrastructure.
