Henrico County offers free Christmas tree recycling for residents

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Henrico County will be accepting Christmas trees for recycling after the Holidays for its residents.

From Dec. 26, 2025, to Jan. 9, 2026, Henrico County is allowing people to drop off their Christmas trees for recycling. This service is free and is offered by Keep Henrico Beautiful and the Department of Public Utilities. Donating the tree prevents landfill space and helps protect the environment.

This donation drive is for Henrico residents only; nonresidents and haulers will be excluded from this offer.

Trees will be accepted at these select locations:

  • In the lower parking lot of Henrico County Government Center, 4301 E. Parham Road
  • In the front parking lot of Eastern Government Center, 3820 Nine Mile Road
  • Springfield Road Public Use Area, 10600 Fords Country Lane (located by Nuckols Road and Interstate 295)
  • Charles City Road Public Use Area, 2075 Charles City Road.

Trees can be dropped off from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Springfield Road and Charles City Road public use areas. They can also be dropped off at any time at the Henrico County Government Center and Eastern Government Center.

All lights, tinsel, ornaments, tree stands and water bowls must be removed from the trees when they are dropped off.

Residents should remember that trees are ineligible for weekly trash collection, even if they are cut into pieces.
