Henrico County opens new Firehouse 23 to improve emergency response
HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Henrico County has officially opened Firehouse 23 on Nine Mile Road, aiming to alleviate the workload on neighboring fire stations and improve emergency response times in the county's East End.
The project, initially approved by voters nearly a decade ago, broke ground last summer and is expected to play a vital role in the community's safety infrastructure.
The station is staffed 24/7 with a fire engine and a fire medic unit. A county spokesperson said it will eventually become home to the East End’s second ladder truck, which is expected to be delivered in 2027.
Construction began for the firehouse in August 2023. The project, which cost about $14.5 million, was funded as part of the 2016 Bond Referendum.
