Henrico County pardons first-ever turkey ahead of Thanksgiving
HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Todd Fowler is the luckiest turkey in Henrico County this holiday season!
Fowler, a resident turkey at Meadow Farm at Crump Park in Glen Allen, was pardoned on Friday, Nov. 21, by Henrico leaders. It was the first time Henrico County pardoned a turkey.
"This was a great feel-good moment of pardoning our resident turkey, Todd Fowler," said Julian Charity, division director for Henrico County Recreation and Parks. "We're hoping to make this an annual tradition. Especially as long as (Fowler) is around, even as (Fowler) moves on to a bigger pasture, then we'll bring in another turkey and we'll do the same thing."
Organizers said County Manager John Vithoulkas read a proclamation before pardoning the bird.
The county also held its weekly reading event for children with a puppet sheep named Pearl. Pearl and Vithoulkas told a Thanksgiving story to Henrico kids and families.
