Henrico County School Board approves 2026 budget
HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Henrico County School Board has voted unanimously in favor of the proposed budget for fiscal year 2026.
The newly-approved budget includes operating funds of $914,219,145 -- a $33,175,669 increase from the previous year's $881,043,476. The increased cost is expected to be supported by an increase in revenue as outlined in the school board meeting's presentation:
New additions to the 2026 budget include the addition of 100 full-time Exceptional Education instructional assistants. Additionally, 150 temporary instructional assistants will be converted to full-time positions for the next school year.
Ten more English Language Learner teacher positions will also be added, bringing the total to 25 new ELL teachers to be added next school year.
The new budget will also include a 6% salary increase for all returning full-time employees and a market adjustment increase -- between 13.8% and 19.3% -- for employees in the following roles:
- Custodial workers and custodians
- Maintenance assistants
- General and exceptional education instructional assistants
- School-based School Nutrition Services
The vote was passed at the school board's monthly meeting on Thursday, Feb. 27.
