Henrico is offering residents to ‘Take the Wheel’ at this months Drive the Bus hiring event
HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) --Henrico County is on the search for bus drivers for the 2025-26 school year.
Potential drivers will have the opportunity to take the wheel at the hiring event scheduled for Saturday June 7, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the parking lot of Hermitage High School, located at 8301 Hungary Spring Rd.
The annual event will allow those interested to drive one of the county's school buses through a course and learn "ins and outs" of how Henrico's over 400 bus drivers transport over 28,000 students to and from school.
According to a press release from the county, those who attend will also learn of the advantages of joining Henrico Schools which include:
- Pay
- Job duties
- Work schedule
- Benefits
To sign up and participate you must have a valid Virginia's License.
Henrico County leads in pay amongst bus drivers in Central Virginia with a starting salary for its new bus drivers with a minimum of $25.54 effective July 1.
Candidates for a full-time and substitute position must have a valid driver's license and be at least 21-years-old. You must also be able to obtain a CDL Class B instructional permit or hold a CDL Class B license with endorsements in:
- Transporting passengers
- School Bus and airbrakes
- Pass a physical as well as a drug test
