Henrico Police warn residents to beware of fake warrant scams
HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Henrico County Police Division has received reports of scammers attempting to impersonate officers to contact community members.
On Thursday, Dec. 18, police posted on Facebook that scammers are calling Henrico residents, falsely telling them that they have a federal warrant and must issue a payment for it to go away.
These scammers may ask the victim to pay them using prepaid cards, gift cards, money-transfer apps or other "unconventional methods."
Residents are reminded that:
- Henrico officers will never call to ask for payment for a warrant
- They'll never request payment from a gift card, money app, prepaid debit cards or any similar method
- They will never ask for personal or financial information over the phone
If you or someone you know receives a call similar to this or thinks they might have, please contact Henrico Police at 804-501-5000.
